American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL)
The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages is a national organization of foreign language educators from elementary to graduate level, promotes the study of languages and cultures in the United States.

Modern Language Association (MLA)
The Modern Language Association works to strengthen the study and teaching of language and literature, in both English and foreign languages. The MLA publishes books, pamphlets, a comprehensive international bibliography, and style guidelines.

SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration)
SAMHSA, an agency within the US Department of Health and Human Services, was established "to reduce the impact of substance abuse and mental illness on America's communities." This website provides information and resources about the prevention, treatment and recovery from a wide range of health issues. Topics covered include suicide prevention, recovery from disasters, alcohol abuse and substance abuse. Within most of these topics a variety of print and online resources can be retrieved. Available in multiple languages.

Latin America & the Caribbean
A selected list of materials about Latin America and the Caribbean for PreK through Grade 12. Titles identified include picture books,novels, folklore, poetry and biography. Find-A-Cognate Database
Developed by Dr. Jose Montelongo this database can identify a Spanish Cognate for an English Word, or an English Cognate for a Spanish Word. (Cognates are words in different languages that look and sound similiar.) Cognates can be used to increase the vocabulary skills of bilingual students.
Grades: K - 12
World Book Online
Online version of the World Book Encyclopedia also includes an atlas, a dictionary, as well as a version for young children and a Spanish student encyclopedia.

GLOBE Program
GLOBE (Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment) is a hands-on, inquiry-based science program. Many resources are provided to help teachers participate in the many GLOBE data collection projects. The website can be translated to French, Spanish, German and Russian.

Hot Potatoes Quiz-making Software
Hot Potatoes is a site that allows teachers to create interactive multiple-choice, short-answer, jumbled-sentence, crossword, matching and fill-in-the-blank exercises for students on the Web. This software is free if the teacher submits the publicly available web address where the Hot Potatoes quiz or exercise will reside once it has been constructed.

iEARN, International Education and Resource Network
Using the theme, Learning with the world, not just about it, iEARN helps teachers and students from over 140 countries work together. Educational games for language learners on this site include Hangman, flash cards, and Java grammar games. Over 22 languages are represented, many with dozens of links to textbook resource materials on the Web.

SEED: Schlumberger Excellence in Education Development
SEED is a nonprofit education program supported by Schlumberger Limited. Experts and volunteers work with students aged 10-18 in hands-on learning activities in the STEM fields (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). Established by the U.S. Library of Congress in collaboration with UNESCO and partner organizations around the world this free resource provides significant primary materials from countries and cultures around the world. Organized by place, time, topic, type of item, and contributing institution, resources can also be found by keyword search. Navigation and descriptions of resources are available in seven different languages. A text to speech option is available, as well as many other special features.

World Weather Information Service
Official weather information for select cities around the world, compiled and sponsored by the Hong Kong Observatory. Forecasts are provided by the weather service in participating 234 countries. Available in 10 languages other than English.
